We LOVE this wooden tofu press and we’re sure you will too! The simplest way to make your own delicious tofu!
Just a bit of soy milk, water, a lemon and this handy dandy wooden tofu press is all you need to make your own tofu, at home, plastic free!
The block of tofu you will make will be 13cm x 13cm x 6cm (approximately, depending on how much you want to make)
It comes with 2 cheese clothes to help you make your soy milk and use in your new wooden tofu press. Just line the press with a cheese cloth, spoon in your soy curds, place the press lid on top, screw down the pressure clamp, watch the water run out and you’re making tofu!
We like to “treat” our wooden tofu press before using it. This is just a process of applying an even layer of oil to the wood to prevent moisture from the water being absorbed, preventing mould from growing. The most commonly sourced oil to use would be grapeseed oil, but any food grade mineral oil (or paraffin) will be fine. Avoid using olive oils or other high flavour type of vegetable oils, as the can turn not so nice if left out in the environment for extended periods of time. Apply the oil in an even layer with a brush, soft cloth or paper towel and allow 24-48 hours to absorb before using the press. Do this for all surfaces inside and out and on all wooden parts of your tofu press.
After you’ve used your tofu press, please thoroughly wash it in dish water with a sponge or dish cloth as soon as practical to avoid any tofu/soy milk sticking onto the press and allow to dry immediately on your bench top or in the sun before storing it away in the cupboard or pantry.
